2 cups vegetable shortening
3 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
4 tsp vanilla extract
5 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp table salt
4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground clove
2-1/2 cups chopped candied red and green cherries
2 cups chopped pecans
1/4 cup milk

In a large bowl using an electric mixer, mix shortening, sugar, and eggs together.

Stir in milk & vanilla

In another bowl, combine sifted flour, baking powder and salt. Add ground cloves & cinnamon

Add these dry ingredients to shortening mixture

Quarter and lightly flour the red & green cherries (2 boxes each) Then add to shortening mixture along with the chopped pecans

Using a tablespoon, drop dough on greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 350F (180C) oven, 8 to 10 minutes.

Cool 5 minutes in pan. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Store in airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week, or freeze up to 1 month.
