2 cups sugar
1 tbsp Karo syrup
32 tbsp butter (4 sticks)
½ cup water
½ cup slivered almonds
2-3 squares milk chocolate
½ cup finely chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, water, butter and syrup. Cover and bring slowly to a boiling point. Remove cover and stir occasionally. Add almonds. stir constantly until it darkens somewhat and begins to smoke. Pour onto a buttered cookie sheet. Pu chocolate squares on warm candy to melt. Spread smooth with spatula. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts. Cool. Cut and store in a dry place.

My mom used to make candy often and especially English Toffee. One afternoon when she she was making this candy, i became inpatient. Rather than wait until it was completed, I stuck my finger into the hot candy and, of course, got a big blister on my finger!
