Ingredients: COOKIES
2½ cups flour, sifted
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp cloves
½ tsp allspice
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ginger
¾ cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
¼ cup light Karo® syrup
MIX-INS (OPTIONAL)
--Use any or all!--
¼-½ cup crystallized orange bits
¼ cup crystallized ginger bits
½ cup nuts, finely chopped (walnuts or pecans preferred)
1 bag confectioner's (powdered) sugar
bowl, small, of sugar
cooking oil spray
Tools:
sifter
electric mixer
counter space lined with waxed paper with plenty of powdered sugar poured on top
kitchen gloves (for rolling out cookies)
scoop, cookie (optional, can use hands)
2 cookie sheets, greased

Directions: |
Directions:Sift the first group of dry ingredients together at least once, more for better results.
Beat the butter, sugar, and egg until light and fluffy.
Alternately beat, **by hand**, flour mixture and ¼ Karo® into butter mixture.
Stir in mix-ins, if desired.
Preheat oven to 375º.
Shape dough into ½" balls.
Roll balls in confectioner's sugar on waxed paper.
Place balls on cookie sheets, 1" apart.
Spray the bottom of the glass with cooking oil and then press into sugar. Firmly but gently press into a cookie. Repeat this process, re-spraying the bottom of the glass with cooking oil as needed. (A big thank-you to Teena for learning this process!)
Bake 5-8 minutes.
Sprinkle with confectioners sugar while still warm. |

According to the old nursery rhyme, If little girls are made of "sugar and spice and everything nice"...is there anything good left for little boys to be made out of?!?
Apparently so, because two of my FAVORITE things were reserved for the little boys: puppies and frogs!!! I guess puppies and frogs don't count as "nice" because they're AWESOME!
