2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup crystallized or candied ginger, finely chopped
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. In separate bowl, mix together flour, soda, salt and spices, blend into creamed mixture. Shape into small balls 1 inch in diameter. Roll in Sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Bake in 350° for 8 to 10 min. Or until golden brown. Don't over bake, Cookies should be slightly soft when removed form oven. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes, then remove to racks to cool completely.
