1 c shortening or margerine
2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 c nuts optional
3 and 1/2 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix well and shape into two loaves and place on a cookie sheet. Refrigerate until firm. (about 3 hours)
Slice and place on cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

I remember going to grandma Baglien's after school in December and heading for the front coat closet where she kept her holiday baking as it wasn't heated and they would stay cool and fresh. Great memories! I keep mine in the garage!
