Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, MELTED
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix granulated sugar, oil, chocolate and vanilla, Mix in eggs, one at a time, stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours. HEAT OVEN TO 350 Heat oven to 350 degrees. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls into powdered sugar and roll around to coat.
Shape into balls. Place about 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched, about 10-12 minutes.

Make sure dough is very cold to lessen how much sticks to your hands as you roll the dough in the powdered sugar. I form the dough in balls first and do several at a time before rolling them in the powdered sugar.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Legend has it that these cookies were invented by Helen Fredell in St. Paul, Minnesota in the early half of the 20th century.
Betty Crocker was served these cookies by Mrs. Fredell and begged her for the recipe!
I understand why and your family will too.
