1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cup sifted flour
1tsp cream of tarter
1tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Directions:
Directions:
Combine butter and shortening and cream well
Beat in sugar, one at a time, gradually
Add unbeaten egg and vanilla and beat thoroughly
Sift in dry ingredients gradually and blend well

Roll into 1 inch balls
Place on greased cookie sheet
Flatten with glass which has a dampened cloth around it that has been dipped in sugar
Bake in preheated 350º oven
10-15 minutes until lightly browned
