½ cup shortening
1¼ cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups softassilk flour (sifted)
½ tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 cup milk (sour or sweet)
2 squares chocolate
1 tsp vanilla
Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly.
Blend in well beaten eggs.
Sift flour, salt and soda together
Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
Blend in melted chocolate and vanilla.
Bake in a 2 round 8 inch pans or a 9 inch square pan, 2 inches deep.
Bake 40 minutes

(Sour milk makes this cake especially tender.)
