1¾ C flour
½ tsp baking soda
14 T butter (1¾ sticks)
½ C sugar
¾ C packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla
1 - egg
1 - egg yolk
1¼ C chocolate chips

Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 375º. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment or a Silpat mat. Whisk flour and baking soda in a medium bowl. Heat 10 tablespoons butter in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until melted, about 2 minutes. Continue cooking, swirling pan constantly until butter is dark golden brown and has nutty aroma,1-3 minutes. Transfer the butter to a bowl and mix in remaining 4T butter until melted. Add white and brown sugar, salt, and vanilla to bowl with butter and whisk. Whisk in egg and egg yolk until smooth, 30 seconds whisk, 3 min rest repeat this process 2x until mixture is smooth, thick and shiny. Stir in flour mixture until combined. Stir in chocolate chips divide dough into 16 portions, 3 T each (#24 cookie scoop). 8 per sheet. Bake 10-14 minutes rotating pan half way through cooking.

I grew up on Nestle Toll House chocolate chip cookies (which are still delicious when my mom makes them) but I also love a good toffee flavor in a cookie. Cook's Illustrated has so many scientifically tested recipes that are tried and true so I thought I'd give this one a try, and I was not disappointed! This cookie is chewy and nutty and goes great with a glass of cold milk!
