Cream:
2 cups brown sugar
2 cup shortening or margarine
Add:
2 well beaten eggs
1 tsp soda dissolved in 1/2 cup hot water
4 cups flour
1/2 salt
1 tsp vanilla
Mix until well blended

Raisin filling:
2 cups raisins
1 tbsp flour
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
Combine and cook until thickened.

Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut in circles. Place one circle on cookie sheet and put a small about of raisin filling in center of circle. Brush edge of circle with water and top with second circle. Cut a slit in center of second circle. OR dough can be dropped on cookie sheet. Dampen the back of a small spoon to create a hole in the center of the dough for the raisin filling. Top with more dough. Bake at 350 until browned.
