2 Granny Smith apples (preferred but other apples can be used)

¼ cup sugar white

1 T bacon grease (Optional)
1 tablespoon butter

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and core and thinly slice apples

Over med heat add enough water to cover botton of fry pan

Add Apples and cook covered for 10 minutes

Turn apples over

When water gone, add bacon grease or butter and continue cooking without lid

Add sugar and turn apples over while mixing.

If additional liquid needed add butter.

Cook until soft and lightly brown. I like mine cooked overdone.

My Granny (May Dean Greer/Stover/Arndt) used to make better fried apples than these, for me, when I would visit. I never could repeat her skill which was cook it low and slow and I still don't have the patience. She could also fry drumsticks like it have never tasted again. Again low and slow. I think she began both these recipes with water but I can't swear to that. I just know these are pretty good apples and almost as natural as it gets. But Granny's were better. She had patience, grace and love in hers.
