2 Egg whites, room temperature
½ Tsp. Cream of tartar
¼ Tsp. Vanilla extract
½ Cup sugar
Red decorators sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 200º
Beat the egg whites until soft peaks start to form, continue to beat while adding cream of tartar and the vanilla, then slowly add the sugar.
Continue to beat until peaks stiffen.
Spoon the meringue into quart sized bag, snip off a corner and pipe 24 1½ inch Santa shaped hats onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Sprinkle with the red sugar.
Use remaining meringue to pipe a pom-pom and trim.
Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Turn off oven and leave in for an additional hour to crisp before removing.
