1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375º.
2. Mix together the shortening, butter, sugars, egg, and vanilla.
3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt.
4. Slowly add in the dry mixture to the wet.
5. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts, if adding.
6. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
