3 c sugar
1-1/2 c water
1/2 c vinegar
3 T cinnamon candy, red hots
Whitney or small apples, whole

Clean and blanch apples to tender-crisp.

Pack apples into sterilized jars; leaving 1 inch headspace. Add cinnamon candy equally per jar, the more you use the hotter the apples. Place jars in hot water with lids.

Mix together the brine ingredients and bring to a boil; boil until sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Pour boiling brine over apples; lid and band. Set on a towel and cover completely for 24 hours, undisturbed.

Store in a cool, dry place for 6 weeks. Ready for the holidays.
