Notes: Where do I start with the story on this recipe? They have been a part of our Christmas festivities forever! I made a container of them to take on our honeymoon to Minnesota to the Farm Fest in 1976. Countless containers were shipped to Iraq and Afghanistan when Bart deployed each time. Always with a slice of bread in them to ensure that they would be soft when they arrived. Bart once convinced one of his soldiers to eat the bread, as that was the best part of the shipment! LOL! Granny Benston passed this recipe down to my mom and it's now on it's 5th generation. I don't know if it was passed down to her. Pictured: Granny Benston, who raised Bert Mowell.
