3.5 C bread flour;
1/2 C whole wheat flour;
1/3 C firmly packed brown sugar;
2 tsp baking soda;
1 tsp baking powder;
2 tsp table salt;
6 T cold, sliced butter;
2 C buttermilk;
1 large egg, beaten;
1 C plumped raisins;
1 C chopped, toasted walnuts (or pecans);

Directions:

Cut the butter into the flour as you do for pie or biscuits;
Mix all dry ingredients together;
Mix wet ingredients together;
Mix everything together either by hand, spatula, or stand mixer (speed 1 for 1-2 minutes;
Form a dough ball;
Flour dough ball;
Place dough into a greased bread pan (I used a covered baker);
Cut a large cross on the dough;
Let rest for 5 minutes;
Bake in a preheated oven at 400-425 for 45 minutes;
Remove and allow to cool before slicing.

This is so easy, quick, and delicious;
Could add 1 tsp orange zest;
Could substitute up to 1 C of sour cream instead of buttermilk.
