1 c. sugar
c. margarine
c. crisco
3 c. flour
tsp. salt
2 level tsp. cream of tartar
1 egg
1 level tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla

c. water
c. sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 c. chopped dates

Mix up dough ingredients. Then cook water, sugar, and dates until thick.
Add lemon juice. Cool

Roll out dough. Grandma would cut 2 circles of dough, then put a dab of filling on one circle and cover it with the other circle, and pinch the two together all the way around. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
