Grandma J's Date Filled Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:  
1 c. sugar
½ c. margarine
½ c. crisco
½ c.milk
3½ c. flour
½ tsp. salt
2 level tsp. cream of tartar
1 egg
1 level tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla


Filling:

½ c. water
½ c. sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 c. chopped dates

Directions:
Directions:
Mix up dough ingredients. Then cook water, sugar, and dates until thick.
Add lemon juice. Cool

Roll out dough. Grandma would cut 2 circles of dough, then put a dab of filling on one circle and cover it with the other circle, and pinch the two together all the way around. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes.
