1 cup shortening

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 tsp. salt

2 eggs, beaten

1 tsp. vanilla

5 cups sifted flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1 1/4 baking soda

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 tsp buttermilk

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Cream shortening, sugar, and salt well. Add beaten eggs; cream well. Add half of flour, baking powder, and soda. Mix well. Add buttermilk and mix. Add remaining flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla and mix.

Flour area to roll dough. Roll out dough, ( dough should be 1/4 inch thick) half at a time, and cut with cookie cutter.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 15 minutes. Do not overbake. Cookies should be white.
