4½ c. all-purpose flour
4 tsp. ground ginger
2 tsp. baking soda
1½ tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
¼ tsp. salt
1½ c. shortening
2 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
½ c. molasses
¾ c. coarse or granulated sugar (to roll balls in)

Mix together dry ingredients, set aside. Cream together shortening and sugar, add eggs and molasses until smooth. Combine with dry ingredients. Using ¼ c. ice cream scoop, shape into 2" balls. Roll in coarse or granulated sugar. Place onto ungreased cookie sheets about 2½" apart. Bake at 350º for 12-14 min. until light brown and puffy. Do not overbake. Cool on wire racks. Makes approx. 25 - 3" cookies.
