Ingredients:
Ingredients:
5 lb hamburger (90/10 preferred)
5 lb mild Italian sausage (Hot is ok. 50/50 mix is good, too)
2 large onions diced
2 lb fresh mushrooms either sliced or chopped
2T minced garlic
4 - 12oz cans tomato paste
2- 29oz cans tomato purée
2 - 29oz cans tomato sauce
5T dried parsley
5t dried oregano
3t dried thyme
3t dried basil
6t salt
6 bay leaves
4T sugar
4t Worcestershire sauce

Directions:
Directions:
Combine ground beef, Italian sausage, onions, mushrooms and garlic and brown. Do not drain. Once cooked down thoroughly, add tomato paste one can at a time and stir well until dissolved. Add tomato purée and sauce. Fill all the empty paste, purée and sauce cans with water and add to pot. Stir well. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Simmer, stirring often, all day if possible, the longer the better. Serve over your pasta of choice. Our favorites are rotini or thin spaghetti.

Definitely my family’s comfort food. Authentic Italian meat sauce handed down through generations. Be sure to use a large stock pot, this recipe will make 3+ gallons of sauce. Perfect for a large group. Freezes well. There is always a stockpile our freezer. Also perfect for lasagna or manicotti.
