½ c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
9 tsp. cocoa
½ c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
Dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Mix butter and sugar. Add eggs and mix. Add cocoa, buttermilk and mix. Add remainder of the dry ingredients and vanilla. Mix well. Slowly add boiling water and mix. Pour in 9 X 13 pan or two round cake pans. Bake at 375º til done. (approx 20 minutes)

This is the traditional birthday cake in our family. I make it as a layered cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. (butter, powdered sugar, cocoa, and milk)
