2 c. sugar
1½ c. butter
½ c. molasses
2 eggs
4½ c. flour
3 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground ginger
½ tsp. nutmeg

In large bowl beat sugar, butter, molasses and eggs until light and fluffy. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg. Mix well. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate 1 hour

Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 8-12 minutes. Cookies will puff up and flatten during baking.

These are really great around the holidays. To add a festive touch, use different colored sugar to roll the balls in before baking. They also freeze really well.
