1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c white sugar
1 c. butter or shortening
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp baking soda
4 eggs
1 Tbsp hot water
2 c. oatmeal
1 tsp vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 pkg (12 oz) chocolate chips or less
2 c. coconut (optional)
1 c. chopped nuts (optional) pecans or walnuts

Directions:

Cream together sugars and butter. Add salt, soda, eggs, and hot water. Stir in oatmeal and vanilla. Add flour chocolate chops, coconut, and nuts. Mix well Bake at 350º about 8 minutes or until light brown. For a more crispy cookie cook till firm.

This recipe came from my sister, Edith Baker's own collection many years ago. I added the coconut and nuts to her recipe when I made it for our Relief Society get together here a few months ago.
