8 oranges
5 cups sugar
1 T grenadine
2 T corn syrup
2 2/3 cups water
sugar for rolling

Cut oranges in half and put in stock pot, cover with water and boil uncovered for 2 hours. They should be covered with a round piece of parchment paper.
Take out of water and drain cut side down on rack until cool. Scoop out flesh with a spoon and discard. Cut rinds into 1/4 inch strips. Combine sugar, grenadine, corn syrup and water- bring to a boil. Add orange rinds and lower heat. Cover with parchment round and simmer for 2 hours, turning gently once in a while. Turn off heat and let set 1 hour. Remove peel from syrup and spread out on rack to cool and dry, 30 minutes. Roll candy strips in sugar and return to rack. Store in airtight container for up to 3 months.

Can be cut out into shapes to decorate a cake with. May also be dipped in dark chocolate for a special treat. Great to put in hot tea for sweetener.
