3/4 cup shortening or butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp lemon or 1 tsp vanilla flavoring
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
1tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and flavoring. Mix them well until creamy. Sift in flour, baking powder, and salt. Chill at least one hour. Heat oven to 400°. Roll and cut. Bake on ungreased sheet for 6 to 8 minutes. Decorate with icing and sprinkles.

I’ve always loved my Mom’s sugar cookies. They still are my fav. She always uses salted butter for the shortening. Also, make sure you DONT OVER BAKE. Barely brown underneath is what makes the best cookie.
