1 c shortening (butter)
2 c sugar
2 eggs
4 c flour
4 t baking powder
pinch of salt
½ c milk
2 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º and reduce to 350º when cookies are put in oven.

CREAM together: 1 c shortening and 2 c sugar
ADD: 2 eggs (slightly beaten)
SIFT together: 4 c flour
4 t baking powder
salt
ADD: flour mixture and ½ c milk alternately
Then add: 2 t vanilla

Knead lightly, roll out and cut with cookie cutter
(Soft if thicker, crisp if rolled thinner)

Baked on ungreased cookie sheet 350º for 15 minutes

When reading Huck Finn with my English classes I would make a batch of these old fashioned cookies to share when Huck went to the ladies tea party.
