1 C. shortening
1 1/2 C. brown sugar
1 egg
4 C. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 C. thick applesauce
1/2 C. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening; add brown sugar & cream until fluffy. Add egg, blend well. Sift together flour, salt, soda, cinnamon & cloves. Sift together 3 times. Add alternately to creamed mixture with the applesauce. Add chopped nuts. Form into 2 rolls. Wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate at least 4 hrs. slice thin; bake on greased cookie sheet in 375º oven for 15 mins.
