2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
1 pkg. (3 ox.) cream cheese (softened)
2 eggs
2 tsp. orange juice
1 tsp. grated orange rind/peel
1 pkg. (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, lightly grease cookie sheets
Sift flour and salt on wax paper
Beat together shortening, sugar and cream cheese in a bowl until well mixed. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add juice and orange peel.
Blend in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonful's 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets. Bake in preheated oven for 12 minutes, or until slightly browned around edges. Cool on cookie racks. Spread tops with icing (see below). Garnish with thin strips of orange rind if you wish.

Orange Icing: Gradually beat 2 cups sifted confectioners sugar into 3 ox. of softened cream cheese until blended. Stir in 1 tsp. orange juice and 1 tsp. grated orange peel.
