1 lb. dates-cut fine
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
3 eggs beaten
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp.vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Boil dates, 1/2 c. sugar and water until thick and cool. Mix the remaining ingredients together. Roll out, then cover with thin coat of date mixture.
Roll up like a jelly roll. Chill over night. Slice 1/3" and bake in 375º oven.
