1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c Brown sugar
1 c shortening (can use 1/2 butter)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 c flour
Salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
Directions:

Mix together
Make into balls
Dip in water and then sugar
Bake 350 degree

I'm not sure about the dipping in water - might try just dipping in the sugar.
This recipe is from my cousin Sandra's mom who was also a good friend of my mother.
I would try baking for 10 minutes
