1 c. shortening or butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk or water
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. dates cut into pieces
Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º

Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and stir into egg mixture.

Filling:
2 c. dates
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. water
Cook until thick and then add 1/2 c. nuts

Put dough on top of filling and bake until done.
