1 1/4 c flour
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Freshly Ground Pepper (* key to ensure it is fresh)
1/2 tsp Crushed Aniseed
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Allspice
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1/8 tsp Cloves, ground
1/2 c Unsalted Butter, room temperature
3/4 c Brown Sugar
1/4 c Molasses
1 Egg
2 c Powdered Sugar

In a bowl, sift together flour, spices, and baking soda. In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugary, and molasses until fluffy (~5 min). Beat in egg. Reduce mixer speed to low and beat in flour mixture. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours.

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease baking sheets with butter.

Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and place on baking sheet 2 inches apart. Bake for 14 minutes. Cool slightly. Then place powdered sugar in a bag and drop a few balls at a time into the bag and shake to coat. Place on wire rack to fine cooling. Store in tupperware for up to 1 week
