1 c. brown sugar
½ white sugar
¾ c. shortening
¼ c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. oats (can use quick or old-fashioned
1 c flour
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. baking soda
1 egg
chopped nuts (optional)
raisins (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugars with shortening, vanilla, and water; add egg and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Stir in oats and rasins, nuts, etc.
Drop by spoonfuls and bake at 350º for 7 - 10 minutes.

Cool on cooling rack. Be sure not to let them get too done if you like the soft and chewy.
