1 c. butter or margarine
1½ c.brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 4 tbsp. boiling water
2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c raisin, mixed fruit, or currants (or some of each)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º F

Cream together butter and brown sugar.
Beat in eggs.
Stir in water and baking soda mixture.
Mix the spices into the flour and add to above.
Add fruit.
Drop by tsp. full on ungreased cookie sheet. Press with fork dipped in flour.
Decorate with a piece of red or green cherry.
Bake approx 15 min or until browned.
