1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon cream of tartar
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 Tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter till soft. Add 1 cup of the flour. Mix thoroughly. Add in 2 cups sugar, eggs, vanilla, baking soda and cream of tartar. Beat until thoroughly combined, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat in remaining flour. Cover and chill 1 hour or until dough is easy to handle.

In a shallow dish combine 4 Tablespoons sugar and cinnamon. Shape dough into approx 1-inch balls. Roll the balls in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes or till edges are lightly browned. Remove cookies. Cool on wire racks.
