½ lb. butter (2 sticks)
1⅔ cups sugar, divided
3 eggs
1 cup sour cream
2½ cups sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla
1½ cups chopped nuts
1½ tsp. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease 2 loaf pans.
Cream together butter and 1 cup sugar with electric mixer. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Add sour cream. Separately sift together flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Add dry ingredients to creamed ingredients. While beating, add lemon juice and vanilla. Spread ½ mixture over bottom of 2 pans. Combine nuts, remaining sugar, and cinnamon and sprinkle ½ over batter in loaf pans. Spoon remaining batter over sugar and cinnamon mixture. Sprinkle remaining sugar and cinnamon mixture on top.
Bake approximately 30 min.

I usually omit the nuts and lemon juice and double the cinnamon. My mother made this regularly, as did I. Now it's up to my three girls!
