Caramel Layer

¾ c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 c. whole pecan halves

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. In 3-quart bowl, combine crust ingredients. Mix at medium speed for 2 – 3 minutes, scraping bowl often. Particles should be fine with no large lumps. Pat firmly into ungreased 13X9X2 pan. Sprinkle pecans evenly over unbaked crust.

Prepare caramel layer by combining brown sugar and butter in heavy 1-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until entire surface begins to boil. Let boil for 1 minute, continuing to stir constantly.

Pour caramel over pecans and crust. Bake for 18 – 22 minutes, until caramel is bubbly and crust is light golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with most chips. Let stand 3 minutes and then swirl chips. Do not spread. Sprinkle remaining chips on top. Let stand several hours, until completely cool. Cut into 3 to 4 dozen bars.

Personal Notes:
This recipe was on a Land of Lakes butter container about 40 years ago. I made it and realized it was a winner. Over the years I made minor changes and it is now a family and friends favorite. Because it is a Land of Lakes recipe, I only use Land of Lakes butter when I make it.
