¾ cup Crisco shortening
1 cup sugar
¼ cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º

Melt shortening in small saucepan over low heat. Remove, let cool.

Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well.

Add rest of ingredients (dry) to mixture. Mix well and chill in refrigerator for a few hours.

Form into 1 inch balls; roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 minutes.
