½8 egg whites
1. 25 ml salt
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp cream of tartar
1 T vinegar
1 T vanilla
2 C sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites with salt, baking powder, and cream of tartar until stiff, but not dry.

Add sugar gradually, add vinegar. Beat longer, add vanilla.

Bake in spring form pan or 9x12 inch pan. Grease only the bottom of the pan.

ELECTRIC OVEN METHON- preheat oven to 400. Place torte in oven and turn off the heat. DO NOT OPEN OVEN DOOR UNTIL COOL! (at least 3 hours)

GAS OVEN METHOD- Bake at 250 for 1 hour. KEEP IN OVEN UNTIL COOL.

This recipe came from Ester Klein the next door neighbor of Verna and Arnold Moeller. It was the traditional dessert for Christmas day in the evening after presents were done and people were looking for a sweet thing.

It was served with whipped ream and strawberries.
