2 c. All purpose flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
2 tsp. sugar
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. cream of tartar
½ c. Crisco shortening
¾ c. Buttermilk
½ tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 5 ingredients, mixing well; cut in shortening until mixture resembles course meal.

Combine buttermilk and soda; add to dry ingredients, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.

Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 10 to 12 times.

Roll dough to ½ inch thickness; cut with a 2-¾ inch biscuit cutter. (You can use a glass if you don't have a biscuit cutter.)

Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet. (Note: I don't grease the baking sheet, it isn't necessary. And, don't use insulted backing sheets.)

Bake at 450º for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
