Grandma's Cherry Kuchen Recipe

1 large can cherry pie filling
OR...
4 cups tart cherries (frozen or canned)
2 cups sugar
Pinch salt
1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch

Sweet Dough: Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix

Crumb Topping:
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. oleo (not butter)

Directions:
Directions:
If making the cherry filling: Combine first three ingredients and simmer for 2 minutes. Mix cornstarch with a little water, add to berries to thicken. Cool.

Crumb Mixture: Mix all ingredients until crumbly in texture.
Note: You can double the crumb mixture if you like!!

Sweet Dough:
Follow directions on Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix to make Sweet Dough.
Let rise, then roll out to 1/4" thickens to fit pan 11x15.
Spoon on berries and top with crumbs

Cover and let rise.
Bake at 325º for 25 minutes.

Note: Sometimes, Grandma made pineapple kuchen:
20 oz. crushed pineapple
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch
Combine in saucepan, bring to boil over medium heat, stir until thickened.
