Ingredients:  
1 cup cornmeal
Dried currants
4 cups boiling water
1 Tbsp. lard
1 Tbsp. salt
Molasses
Butter
Milk

Directions:
Directions:
Put dried currants in the boiling water.
Sprinkle a cup of cornmeal in the boiling water.
While stirring, add in the lard and salt.
Cook for 3 minutes, then pour into bowls.
Serve with molasses, butter, and milk.

Even in the pioneer days, breakfast was the most important meal of the day. It should give them the nourishment to start the day’s trek.
