1 cup sugar 1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg 1 tsp soda
1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup sour milk* 1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup hot water


Beat sugar, butter, and egg until fluffy. In a separate bowl, mix cocoa, flour, salt, soda, and baking powder. Alternate flour mixture, milk, and hot water. Add vanilla and mix.
Bake at 350º for about half hour. Check doneness with tooth pick. Do not overbake.

*To make sour milk, add 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup milk. Allow to sit for 10 minutes to sour.

This is my favorite and my Mom's because it is moist and very chocolaty. I usually frost it with the chocolate satin icing. Charlie & Jesse were so much fun at this age.
