1 c. shortening
¾ c. brown sugar
¾ c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. hot water
3 c. oatmeal
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts,chopped
1½ c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Set oven to 350°.
Cream shortening. Add sugars and eggs. Beat well. Sift flour and salt and add to mixture. Add soda to hot water then to mixture. Stir in oatmeal, chips and nuts. Drop by teaspoon onto cookie sheet that has been sprayed with non-stick spray. (Using parchment paper instead of non-stick spray works great too and less mess!)
Bake 10-12 minutes.
