2 sticks butter

1 ½ cup sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 ½ cup flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Mix in usual manner; chill 2 to 3 hours. Roll out on floured board; cut and bake on ungreased sheet for six to 8 minutes.
 

Frosting

1-2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup butter softened

powdered sugar

Food coloring of choice

Directions:
Mixed together milk vanilla and butter. Add as much sugar as needed to make it of spreading consistency. Separate into as many bowls as needed, and add food coloring of choice for your decorated cookies.

Our family tradition was to cut out Christmas trees, and decorate them with green icing and red hots.
