"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Personal Notes:
This recipe was given to me by Christy Turner's Great Grandma Fausett. (Dave Miller's maternal grandmother.)

She served this to me as part of lunch the first time Dave took me to meet her at her home in Osawatomie, Kansas in 1969. She served a big lunch with roast beef, green beans (cooked with bacon in a pressure cooker) and this salad. I know there was dessert but I can't remember what she served.

I've attached her handwritten copy of the recipe.
