6 T butter
1 c dark brown sugar
2/3 c boiling water
3 T cornstarch
2 T flour
1/2 t salt
2 c milk
3 egg separted into whites and yolks
1 t vanilla
6 T white sugar
Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter over low hear
Add brown sugar and cook until foamy stirring constantly
Stir in boiling water then remove from heat
Mix cornstarch, flour and salt in top of double boiler
Stir in milk and add brown sugar syrup
Cook over heat until mixture thickens stirring constantly
Remove from heat
Beat egg yolks then add a little of the hot mixture and blend
Blend into remaining hot mixture and cook over hot water 5 minutes
Add vanilla and cool

Poor into baked pie shell and top with meringue.

MERINGUE:
beat 3 egg whites with 6 T white sugar until stiff peaks form
Top filling and brown in over until tan - watch closely will burn easily
