4 tbsp. unsalted butter
1 medium onion, diced
1 lb. ground beef
2 - 28 oz. cans crushed tomatoes
1 - 15 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 - 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 clove garlic
¾ c. brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
1. Melt butter in dutch oven. Add onion and saute until onion is very brown (almost burned).
2. Add ground beef and saute until no longer pink, breaking up chunks with a wooden spoon or potato masher.
3. Once ground beef has been cooked, add ½ tsp. salt and ½ tsp. pepper. Add tomatoes (crushed, diced, and paste), garlic clove (whole) and ¾ cup brown sugar.
4. Bring to simmer. Simmer uncovered for 2 ½-3 hours.
5. Serve with favorite pasta shape.

Grandma Edie's sauce was famous when we were growing up. To get this recipe, I had to follow her around the kitchen with measuring cups and spoons, making sure she didn't add something when I wasn't looking. While she's not on the earth anymore, she lives on through this recipe!
