Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Topping
1/2 C. Butter, softened - not melted
1 C. Sugar
3/4 C. Flour
2 tsp. Cinnamon
or
1 tsp. Cinnamon + 1 tsp. Nutmeg

Apples - as written by Grandma Dot - Enough apples to fill the dish.
Or
about 5 - 7 depending on the size of the apple

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º F.

**Can't tell you what size pan to use. Grandma Dot always used the same casserole pan. What ever you use, make sure it holds all your apples and is oven safe.

Topping
1. Place all the topping ingredients in a medium and combine until mixture looks like course crumbs. I usually use a fork for this. You want to be able to "sprinkle" the topping on the apples, not plop the topping on the apples!! Set topping aside until ready for use.

2. Prepare your dish with pan spray or coat with butter.

3. Peel, core, and slice apples. Try to keep the apple slices the same size so they will cook more evenly.

4. Place sliced apples in baking dish. Sprinkle all the topping mixture over the top of the apples. Covering the apples.

5. Place baking dish on a foil lined cookie sheet in case the apples bubble over.

6. Place in the center of the oven and bake for 45 - 60 minutes.

Personal Notes:
This recipe takes me back to mom's kitchen in the fall. She made this often. The smell of the apple crisp cooking. The crunch of the topping when you eat it. And if it was available, vanilla ice cream on top. It was always best warm out of the oven. Thank heavens for microwave ovens so we can always have it warmed.
