Indian Fry Bread


Ingredients:

1/4 cup sugar
3 tsps baking powder
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup water (or just enough water to make a soft dough)
Oil for frying

Sweet or Savory Toppings

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all the dry ingredients together. Add water. mixing carefully. Divide the dough into four pieces and pat each into a rounded, flat shape. Add 1-2 inches of oil to a large skillet (deep, electric fry skillet would work best) and heat to 350º. Fry each round until crisp and brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Use for Indian Tacos or serve as a sweet snack; brush with melted butter and than sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar and/or top with jams/jelly, honey butter or with fresh fruit and whipped cream.
 

Navajo Tacos

Indian Fry Bread-cooked
Seasoned Ground Beef--taco filling
Shredded Cheese
Shredded Lettuce
Tomatoes
Salsa and Sour Cream
Olives & other desired toppings, if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Assemble hot beef on top of freshly fried & drained Indian fry bread. Top with desired toppings.
Also known as Indian Tacos.
